Public Education

The Committee on Access to Justice has prepared a series of brochures on the following topics to inform members of the public about measures to address environmental and land use problems.

The Environmental and Land Use Law Section and the Committee on Access to Justice

The Environmental and Land Use Law Section is an organization within The Florida Bar which is open to Florida Attorneys and other professionals who have a common interest in environmental and land use law. One of the Section’s major purposes is to promote increased knowledge and understanding of environmental and land use law.

In response to the need for increased legal services to indigent citizens and others who are unable to afford legal counsel for environmental and land use problems, the Section has created a Committee on Access to Justice which seeks to encourage pro bono activities among Section members in the areas of environmental and land use law.

As a part of its program to encourage greater pro bono activities, the Section is sponsoring a variety of activities, including the following:

  • Earth Day Legal Clinics: The Committee will operate booths at Earth Day celebrations and respond to general information requests.
  • Legal Assistance through Legal Services, Inc. and the Florida Pro Bono Coordinators Association: The committee will provide consultation to Legal Services lawyers or direct assistance through these lawyers to low income citizens threatened with environmental and land use problems.
  • Public Workshops on Environmental and Land Use Law: The committee will sponsor workshops to educate the general public on environmental and land use law decision making.
  • Educational Materials for Citizens: The committee will prepare general educational materials on measures to address environmental and land use problems.
